2026-2027 Team Formation Guidelines

Ringette Ontario has replaced the existing guidance on team formation for ages U14-U19.  The new policies will be in use for the 2026-2027 season.  Some major changes have taken place such as the removal of the "Closest-Association Matrix" and banning of underage players (except for instances of team viability, which must be approved by Ringette Ontario).  You can find the full policy document below.

FAQ Regarding Provincial Team Formation from Ringette Ontario

Some additional information:

  • All London Ringette Association AA / A teams will be FEMALE ONLY
  • Drills used during tryouts will be age and skill appropriate and used to evaluate all aspects of the game including skating, shooting, ring control, passing, game sense and work ethic. Evaluators, in addition to the Head Coach will be present around the ice surface during tryouts to observe and evaluate the players.

While there are four tryout ice times, offers and/or releases by LRA teams are most likely to begin after the second tryout date. Players must attend at least one (1) tryout to be considered for a roster spot.

      • In cases of illness, injury or certified absence, please notify the head coach and Shawn Reidy or Jess Walker in writing prior to the tryout (as early as possible) for the player to be eligible to be considered for a roster spot.
      • If there are overlapping tryout dates and times between clubs, players are expected to:
        • Attend the first scheduled tryout(s) at their home and/or current club
        • Once the player has attended one(1) tryout at their home and/or current club (if applicable), they can attend the tryout(s) of other club(s)
      • Offers and/or releases will be provided in writing via the email address provided during registration.
    • Players will have 48 hours to respond in writing, to accept or decline offers made to them. Failure to respond within 48 hours will be considered a declined offer.
      • Players will follow the right of refusal pathway (home, current, choice)
      • Should a player decline an offer spot on an AA or A team, the player must return to their home club and start the team formation process again.
      • Players who accept a roster spot offer must honour the commitment. If the athlete voluntarily leaves the team, they are not eligible to join an A/AA team in any other club in the current season.
  • Information regarding team expectations for the season including estimated costs, time commitments, competition schedule etc will be shared at the parent meeting. Details regarding the date, time, and format of the parent/guardian meeting will be shared shortly (U19AA's meeting will be at 7:30 -  half an hour before the first tryout). Attendance by at least one parent or guardian is strongly recommended for all players planning to attend tryouts.
  • Our goal is to ensure that families clearly understand each step of the process and how communication will occur.
  • Thank you for your continued support and involvement. We look forward to a positive and well-informed tryout process.
