1.   London U16AA had a terrific showing this weekend in Waterloo.  They came into the New Year playing strong!  Their opening match against Barrie Friday morning ended in a 7-7 tie with London scoring in the last few minutes to draw even.  Their second game on Friday evening was a dominating 8-2 win over Gloucester which was followed up by another impressive 9-4 defeat of Ottawa Saturday morning.  The U16’s had their first setback on Saturday evening when they lost a close 6-5 battle on an empty net goal with just 20 seconds remaining.  London punched-their-ticket to the Gold Medal game on  Sunday morning in exciting fashion with a 4-3 win against the previously undefeated West Ottawa team; the game winning goal coming with just 0.1 seconds left on the clock.   In the Gold Medal game London got off to an early 1-0 lead, but the tenacious Kitchener team turned out to be too much on this day.  Kitchener won 6-2.  Great work ladies!

2.  The London U19AA also had a successful weekend, picking up valuable seeding points by finishing second in round robin play. London started the weekend with 3-3 and 5-5 ties against Eastern Ontario-Mainwood and Burlington, respectively. Saturday brought even more success with London earning a gritty and determined 2-1 win against Eastern Ontario-Leduc and an impressive 5-2 victory over Kitchener.  The semifinals featured a rematch against Eastern Ontario-Leduc.  This was a thrilling back and forth battle that saw Eastern Ontario claw their way back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to see the teams deadlocked at 2 by the end of regulation play.  Overtime was end-to-end action with both teams having multiple scoring chances.  In a heart-breaker Eastern Ontario secured the win by scoring with 9 seconds left in the first over-time period.

3.  London U12A was also in Burlington this weekend, and this dedicated hard-working bunch is continuing to grow and improve.  Their opening game Friday morning was a 4-4 draw with a Tillsonburg team that had dismantled London in their two previous matches  this season, 8-0 at Pink-the-rink and 9-4 in league play.  London also scored a 4-3 win over Sudbury.  London tied for second in round robin points but did not hold the tie-breaker and failed to advance to the Gold Medal game.  A talented West Ottawa cruised to Gold 9-3 over Tillsonburg and did not win a game by less than a 5 goal spread all weekend.

4.  OpenA-Ron played in the Waterloo Winterfest.  Their weekend included a 5-0 loss to Sudbury and a 3-2 loss to Kitchener before they turned things around and finished strong with a 3-2 win over Paris, and a 6-6 tie with Oshawa.  West Ottawa would end up with the Gold here also.
