Today the LORL Regional Championships came to their conclusion. It was a terrific weekend and we hope all the participants had as much fun and enjoyment playing as we had in hosting it! The weekend was filled with exciting ringette, lots of hard work, and many successes for our Lynx teams. Special thank you to Melinda for her tireless efforts in organizing this tournament!
We had 5 London Lynx teams in tournament action this weekend, U14B, U16B, (as wells as three Fun2 teams) and they all made us proud with their hard work, resilience, and good sportsmanship. 3 London teams walked away with medals (see recaps below), but we wish sincere congratulations to all our Lynx players and families on their accomplishments this year. We saw tremendous growth and improvement across all our age groups and teams and we are already looking forward to continuing that progression with summer ringette and the start of next season.
The winner of our 50/50 draw was Lisa Osinga with ticket C-1831 and a total pot size of $2000.
Our U14B ladies, coached by Mariah Barras had an outstanding tournament. They faced off in the Gold Medal Game against St. Thomas; a rematch of the Kitchener Golden-Ring Gold Medal Game that saw the Lynx fall 8-1 to our neighbours to the south. London fought hard through the first period and were tied 2-2 at half time. Both teams kept battling hard and at the end of regulation time things were all tied up at 3-3. Ten minutes into overtime, and with the crowd going wild, the Lynx secured victory 4-3; claiming the Gold and finishing UNDEFEATED all weekend long. CONGRATULATIONS U14B!!
Fun3-Cleaver claimed the second London Lynx Gold Medal of the Tournament. These girls played their hearts out all weekend and in the finals they dispatched the St. Mary's Snipers in convincing fashion, 9-2. The true test for team Cleaver had come the evening before when they battled their way through a tough must-win round robin game against Richmond Hill, 6-3, to earn their way into the Gold Medal Game. Great job Fun3-Cleaver!!
The final London Lynx Medal was brought home by Fun3-Duddy Shaw. After a perfect 3-0 round robin, these Lynx ran into a very difficult Paris Thunder team. It was a close and exciting game that saw Paris jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. London kept battling and managed to pull within 1 goal, late in the final period, but unfortunately time ran out before the Lynx could get the equalizer. Nevertheless it was a great weekend for Duddy Shaw, Congratulations on your Silver Medal!
